Variegated liriope, commonly called lilyturf or monkey grass, is a tufted tuberous-rooted grass-like perennial which features clumps of strap-like, arching, glossy, medium green leaves that are variegated with creamy white margins. Clumps spread slowly and expand but do not spread aggressively. Showy flower spikes with violet-purple flowers rise above the leaves in late summer. Giving way to blackish berries often into winter.

Feeding Requirements

Once a year lightly with a balanced slow-release fertilizer. Apply in late spring after the last frost.

Pruning Time & Tips

Optionally cut to ground each winter – Not necessary to health. Divide every 3 years.

Common Pests & Diseases

Slugs, Snails, Leaf Rot and Crown Rot.

Maturity

12-18” x 12-18”

Troubleshooting:

If you notice several leaves have turned fully yellow and you see brown or black patches growing at the base of the leaves, it’s a good indicator of crown or root rot. Apply a fungicide and cut out the part of the root or crown that is rotted if you catch it early. If this advances, the entire plant is likely to die.
