Plant Bio:

The rising sun redbud is an ideal specimen or accent plant. Abundant pea-like rosy-lavender flowers appear in early spring before the foliage. Heart-shaped deep apricot leaves appear and mature though shades of orange, gold, and yellow with all colors present at once. The foliage turns a shade of lime green in the summer heat.

Watering Requirements

Regularly – weekly, or more often in extreme heat. At least 1” per week.

Feeding Requirements

Twice a year with a balanced slow-release fertilizer. Apply in late spring after the last frost and again in mid-summer.

Pruning Time & Tips

Annually in late winter or very early spring. Prune to maintain shape and remove any crossing limbs.

Common Pests & Diseases

Dieback/Canker, Leaf Spots, Verticillium Wilt, Tree Hoppers, Scale and Spider Mites.

Troubleshooting:

If you suspect your redbud is suffering from Cankers, prune out and destroy dead and infested areas. Be sure to make pruning cuts at least 3-4” below the canker into the healthy wood and after every cut sanitize the pruning tools.
