Jane magnolia is best known for its compact, upright habit, large reddish-purple flowers with white interiors and later blooming time (mid-April to early May). It is a slow-growing, multi-stemmed, small deciduous tree. The cup-shaped flowers appear before the foliage, making a spectacular spring display!
Watering Requirements
Often – once or twice weekly for the first season it is planted, and more often in extreme heat. At least 1” per week.
Feeding Requirements
Once a year with an acidic slow-release fertilizer. Apply in late spring after the last frost.
Pruning Time & Tips
Immediately after flowering, as needed. Prune off dead or damaged branches.
If leaves wilt and turn brown, the problem is likely leaf scorch, which is caused by under-watering. Keeping the soil moist will reverse the problem and encourage optimal growth.
