May Night Saliva
Plant Bio:
May night salvia blooms prolifically with deep purple-blue flowers. It is an outstanding perennial with excellent cold hardiness, vigor, and tolerance of heavy clay soils. It blooms in early spring with a profusion of flower spikes and can catch a second wind in fall with a less spectacular, but still beautiful display. Goes fully dormant in the winter here, but will return each spring.
Watering Requirements
Regularly – weekly, or more often in extreme heat or in containers. At least 1” per week.
Feeding Requirements
Once a year, lightly, with a balanced slow-release fertilizer. Apply in summer.
Pruning Time & Tips
Deadhead spent blooms throughout the blooming season – Cut back to 3” above soil in winter.
Common Pests & Diseases
Scale, Whitefly and Powdery mildew.

Troubleshooting:
To prevent powdery mildew, water salvia from below and keep foliage dry. If mildew appears, sanitize tools and remove and destroy affected leaves and debris in the fall to reduce its return next season.
