Plant Bio:

Natchez crepe myrtle is a large shrub or small tree with smooth, dark, cinnamon brown, exfoliating bark. Glossy dark green leaves turn vibrant orange-red in the fall. Panicles of pure white, soft textured flowers bloom all summer long. Makes an excellent specimen planting or impressive in groupings.

Watering Requirements

Low – water deeply when soil is dry. About 1” per week.

Feeding Requirements

Fertilize annually with a balanced slow release fertilizer when leaves first appear in spring.

Pruning Time & Tips

Prune in late winter or Early spring. Remove crossing limbs and to keep a nice canopy shape.

Common Pests & Diseases

Powdery mildew, Cercospora Leaf Spot, Aphids, Japanese Beetles and Sooty Mold.

Troubleshooting:

Keep an eye on suckers growing at the base of the trunk, it’s best to prune these off as early as possible to avoid energy spent growing unwanted limbs.
